These fish are typical on any given day on the lower Sacramento River. Some of these photos are from the Pit River, the upper Sacramento and Hat Creek. Different places fish better at different times.

Spring Fishing!

4/6...... Great weather, great fishermen, and plenty of pescatorial participation! Art and Bud returned for their second trip this spring. The action was very good and consistant all day but at one point we drifted  a stretch and hit 12 fish on 12 consectutive passes. The mayflies were coming of pretty much all day and we used several different nymphs with success. The early morning fish seemed to like the 'Curt's Nest' but later on the micro may and Bud's 'Infrequens' seemed to be the ticket. We fished a full day and had a great time. Most of the fish seemed to be between Posse grounds and Cypress St. We boated 17 fish most of them between 16 and 18 inches. We did lose a couple of bruisers.... One fish took Bud down and out and just screamed his reel then popped off. We'll get him next time.

Lower Sac stays HOT!

4/3..... Rex and Paul and I had a fun day on the river. Spring was definately in the air and the big fish were biting too. This was Rex second time down the river this spring so he knows the program and landed a few really nice ones and sprinkled in some 15 to 17 inchers too. On the other hand this was Pauls first time down the Sac but he caught on quickly and landed the big fish of the day after about an hour on the water. His 22 incher looked like a Trinity Steelhead; what a beauty. Both Paul and Rex finished off the day with a 19 and a 20 incher respectively. Both caught in the last hour of the trip just before sunset. After a full day we all left the river happy and tired looking forward to fishing again.

Rainy Day Fish!

C

3/26....... Just fishin in the Rain..... Wow, what a day, as soon as we started hoooking fish we didn't even notice the rain. Juistin is new to flyfishing and just picked up his new rod and reel the day before. He certainly put it to good use. He even caught 5 lb squawfish along with several other nice rainbows.

Cade also had some luck in the early morning rain. This 22" 5 lb lunker was hooked just below the Sundial Bridge and it took a few hundred yards for us to net and release him. The magic flies were the 'Curt's nest' and the Olive micro-may. It was a good day with consistent action. We laughed and enjoyed the day and the rain just became our friend.

Fishing has been excellent and we have at least 1 fish over 4 lbs in the 3 most recent trips.

Spring has sprung

3/23....... The big fish are in the upper sections of the lower Sacramento river, the water is low and clearing and even with the wet weather the fish are biting. Mike and Bob boated 4 fish over 18 inches and one really big Sacramento sucker (must have been 5 lbs):-)! They also played a few other big ones that we saw but didn't net (damn barbless hooks...). The largest was a fat 20 incher that probably went at least 4 lbs. We had a lot of fun and joked around most of the day between hook-ups. One thing for sure is that Mike will never bring another banana on the boat LOL!  The hot fly was the 'Curt's Nest' which is a caddis imitation that seems to finding the big ones for the last month or so.

Linda, Dave and Lady Luck

3/17/12.... What a pleasure it was to meet and fish with this class couple Linda and Dave. Lady Luck definately rewarded Linda with a nice fat hard fighting rainbow that she played expertly into the net. The spring weather was nice but the river was a bit of color which made things a bit tough but it didn't bother these troopers. many smaller fish were release and Linda last another one about as big as the one pictured.
