These fish are typical on any given day on the lower Sacramento River. Some of these photos are from the Pit River, the upper Sacramento and Hat Creek. Different places fish better at different times.

Trinity is heating up

 

10/15.... Jim and Cade (father & son) got the hang of it quickly. Sometimes flyfishing for Steelies can be fickle and the hot sunny afternoon didn't help us but we did manage 10 hookups and 5 adults saw the inside of our net. Cade seemed to have the hot hand. Our fish were on the smaller side 2 to 4 lbs, and we saw a lot of salmon clearly in the low flows (300 cfs, watch out for the rocks). The flows will bounce back up and the fishing will improve. The next couple of months promise to be excellent on this gem of a river.
